The Cabinet noted that as the Delhi government has approached the Supreme Court on the issue of distribution of power in Delhi, and the apex court will take up the matter on November 15, the panel should discontinue its work.
“During discussion, the Cabinet found that the Lt Governor doesn’t have any power to constitute such a panel, to examine the files of the Delhi government, and that it is illegal. As the members of panel are eminent persons, we request them not to scrutinise the files till the Supreme Court rules in the matter,” said Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
The Lt Governor had constituted a panel comprising former CAG V K Shunglu, former Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami and former Chief Vigilance Commissioner Pradeep Kumar. “The committee is also summoning officials in connection with its examination of 400 files. In this entire process, the respective ministers have been kept out of the loop. The entire exercise has brought a great amount of important and ongoing work to a halt. It has also created a feeling of uncertainty and fear among officials…,” stated the Cabinet.
