HTC’s two Nexus phones probably only differ by display and battery

Last week, we got a preview of the specs for the Sailfish with no hint of Marlin. HTC is probably going to manufacture two new Nexus devices this year, which Google has reportedly codenamed Marlin and Sailfish. Now, it’s Marlin’s turn. Android Police published what we can supposedly expect to see on the bigger Nexus:

  • Quad-core Qualcomm processor
  • 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display
  • USB-C port
  • 12-megapixel rear camera, 8-megapixel front camera
  • Rear fingerprint scanner
  • 4GB RAM
  • 3450mAh battery
  • 32GB or 128GB of storage

The only spec differences between Marlin and Sailfish is that Marlin has a higher-resolution display and bigger battery. Android Police expects the phones’ hardware, including their cameras, CPU, and RAM, to be the same in both devices. HTC appears to be mirroring Apple’s strategy of outwardly differentiating devices (like the 6 / 6S and 6 / 6S Plus) by size. Pricing information and a release date are still unclear, but it wouldn’t be crazy to expect the phone to come alongside Android Nougat, which is expected later this summer.
