Huawei P10 UK release date, design, features, spec and software rumours

Although a few years ago Huawei was a relatively unknown brand in the UK, in 2016 Huawei Huawei P9 changed all this. The company has made great smart design ideas from the impressive and great value for money, which is seeking to continue this trend in 2017 with Huawei P10. Although the smartphone has not yet been released, here you will find all the latest details on the Huawei P10 UK release date, price, design, features, specs and software rumors.

Huawei P10 UK release date and pricing rumours: When will the Huawei P10 launch in the UK?

Release date: February 26 2017, during Mobile World Congress

So, when will we see the upcoming Huawei P10 released in the UK? While we originally thought that Huawei’s 2017 flagship wouldn’t appear until slightly later in the year, possibly around April like its predecessor, Huawei has sent out invites to a presentation in Barcelona on 26 February, the day before MWC 2017 (Mobile World Congress) is due to begin.

Huawei says that the presentation will be “the global unveiling of a new flagship device” and while that can also be interpreted as a new Huawei brand (like the mid-range Nova and Nova Plus announced at IFA 2016), we imagine it’ll be the next iteration of Huawei’s hugely popular P-range. A pre-MWC 2017 announcement is a great idea too, as other companies including Samsung and LG have similar presentations to unveil their flagships the day before MWC begins, giving all mobile manufacturers an even playing field going into the show.

What about pricing? While there’s no suggestion on the price of the Huawei P10, looking at the launch price of the 2016 Huawei P9, we imagine that the Huawei P10 will cost somewhere between £449-500.

Huawei P10 design rumours: What will the Huawei P10 look like?

With such an impressive history when it comes to smartphone design, Huawei’s P10 will no doubt impress fans. While we’d usually speculate as to what the smartphone will look like, a recent leak (if real) showcases the front of the Huawei P10. If true, the leaked photo suggests that while the general form factor of the P10 will be like that of the P9, there are a few notable changes.

This includes the fingerprint scanner being moved from the rear to the front of the device, embedded within the Home button like the Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design Edition. It’s an interesting move from Huawei as we, and many other Huawei fans, enjoy the out-of-the-ordinary fingerprint scanner placement and feel that it’s more convenient in certain situations than one built into the Home button of a smartphone.

A second leaked photo from Weibo seems to suggest that as with the P9 and P9 Plus, there will be a small and large version of the P10 with slightly different looks and specifications. While the first photo suggested a familiar design, the above mock-up suggests a design like that of the Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design edition.

Huawei P10 feature and spec rumours: What will the Huawei P10 feature?

So, most importantly, what will the Huawei P10 offer? While nobody can say for sure until the pre-MWC 2017 presentation in February, there have been a number of rumours and leaks that showcase certain features of the upcoming flagship.

In terms of display, the most recent rumours suggest that the Huawei P10 will feature a 5.5in display with a QHD resolution, although we’re slightly sceptical about this as Huawei has traditionally steered away from high-resolution displays, opting instead to improve the screen technology to provide a better image. There’s also talk of a curved display like the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge or Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design.

But what about the internals? According to both a leaked benchmark and a Weibo post, the upcoming P10 will feature the same octa-core Kirin 960 processor as is what’s featured in the Huawei Mate 9, with either 4 or 6GB of RAM. This could be due to two different versions of the phone, or simply be a mistake.  Along with the Kirin 960, fans can expect to find the Mali G71 GPU.

In terms of camera, the P10 will almost certainly feature a dual-camera setup. The P9 was the first Huawei smartphone to feature the dual-lens setup, and the company has continued the trend with the Huawei Mate 9. A leaked benchmark points towards a 12Mp rear camera and an 8Mp front facing camera and although there’s no dual-lens mention, the megapixel counts are the same as the P9.

We’re surprised at the 12Mp leak as the recently released Mate 9 offers an upgraded dual-camera setup with a 12Mp colour and 20Mp monochrome sensor, and it’d be counter-productive for Huawei’s 2017 flagship to have a less impressive camera than one that was announced in 2016.

Huawei P10 software rumours: What software will the Huawei P10 feature?

Assuming Huawei P10 will be in the UK relatively quickly approaching the MWC 2017 announcement, the smartphone should be packaged with the latest version of Android nougat, Google’s Android operating system. More importantly, however, the logic suggests that it will also feature EMUI 5, the latest version of Huawei’s Android skin announced with Huawei on Nov. 9, 2016 mating.

EMUI 5 is an overhaul of Huawei’s Emotional UI, offering a more concise, easier-to-use, experience-choice option with an app tray or iOS-esque home screen experience. It should also bring impressive performance benefits to the device. After continuous use, Huawei claims that intelligent machine learning will improve the performance of the device beyond how it performs when it is brand new.
