For LG, the X Series are the new budget smartphones, which offer features seen on premium devices of the company. With the X screen, users get the ‘Always On’ display and Dual- Display on top, a feature which was part of the more premium V10 smartphone. LG first debuted the new X screen and X cam smartphones at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this February.
So what does the dual display feature mean
? LG X screen has a 4.93-inch HD in-cell touch display as well as 1.76 inch secondary display right on top. This second screen — as LG calls it — shows the last four recently accessed apps, settings app, music app, and lets users answer calls without interrupting current activity. It’s kind of like a strip on top of the regular display, where these apps appear. Users cannot change or determine which apps will show in this secondary screen.

The advantage with the dual display is that one can access notifications, check battery status, date, etc all from the locked screen. A user can just tap the secondary display and it will show this information, without the need to unlock the phone each time. The Secondary Screen’s resolution is 520x80p.
‘Dual screen’ and always-on display is what the LG X screen is all about. But LG has added an India-specific feature by including a panic button. The panic button is integrated in the power button; once a user presses the power button five times in a row, the SOS mode appears on the Dual Screen and the phone will send alerts to a user’s emergency contacts.
This seems to comply with the government’s recent recommendations for a mandatory ‘Panic button’ on all mobiles and smartphones in India.

The LG X screen has a very competitive price. However, unlike some other players, this phone has a Glass Fibre body and a metal frame on the side. In terms of design, this is definitely one of the best looking phones in this price.
The glass body looks great. But it is all shiny and glossy, so it might be slippery. The phone feels incredibly light in your hands and weighs only 120 grams. Design is where LG X screen looks different from competition, even if LG hasn’t given this one the beefiest of specs.
The lack of a full HD display at this price-point is questionable, but the HD display is not bad.

LG X Screen features a quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor clocked at 1.2Ghz, coupled with 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM (expandable to 32GB ) It features a 13mp camera and an 8mp front camera. LG X screen has a 2,300 mAh battery and runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This is 4G LTE enabled smartphone, which will come in black and white colours.
LG X screen might have a tough time justifying the price tag in relation to its specs, given that Xiaomi, LeEco and others are giving a better processor, more RAM and storage at a lesser price. LG X Screen certainly scores high on the looks department, and offers some unique features, but for India’s users whether that will be enough to impress remains to be seen.
