“Officers from Raj Niwas shall make regular visits to the dhalaos in the coming days,” said Jung, adding that “civic agencies need to be vigilant”.

Jung, accompanied by senior MCD officials, inspected garbage dumps at Asaf Ali Road and Bela Road, while his officers visited dhalaos in Lajpat Nagar, Captain Gaur Marg and Nanak Pyao, among others.

“While visiting dhalaos, the Lt Governor was particularly concerned about the frequency of garbage collection… he instructed the supervisor-level officers to keep a close eye on the cleaning operations and make regular visits to the dhalaos themselves. He also instructed the staff to ensure that garbage does not spill over to the roads while sorting. After the inspection of the dhalaos, the Lt Governor directed the officers of MCD to ensure regular garbage collection… and sanitisation to check breeding of mosquito larvae,” the LG’s office said in a statement.

During their visit to the garbage dump at Nanak Pyao, Jung’s special secretary, accompanied by the deputy commissioner and additional commissioner of North MCD, saw that garbage had not been collected from the dump. Residents of nearby Kabir Basti also complained that their area had not been fumigated. The MCD officials present at the spot were asked to ensure that the garbage is cleared and fogging is carried out in the area, said an official from Jung’s office.

SC to hear PIL on dengue, chikungunya outbreak

The Supreme Court Wednesday agreed to hear a PIL seeking directives to the Centre and the Delhi government to take effective steps to deal with the outbreak of dengue and chikungunya. “Let it be listed for hearing on Monday next week,” said a bench led by Justice Anil R Dave when senior advocate Colin Gonsalves mentioned the plea for urgent hearing. Agreeing to list the PIL on September 26, Justice Dave also quipped whether mosquitoes have been made parties to the PIL or not.

The PIL, filed by Delhi-based doctor Anil Mittal, has sought a direction that a panel of experts be set up to ascertain the steps taken to tackle diseases like chikungunya, in the country in general and Delhi in particular.
