BJP President Satish Upadhyay.
Let’s read the news.
Upadhyay had urged the MPs to attend the meeting, said sources, adding he submitted memorandums on the CAG report and the delimitation process to Jung. However, the BJP maintained the MPs were asked to either attend the meeting if they had time, or send their memorandums to the LG.
Downplaying the no-show by party MPs, Upadhyay said, “Maheish Girri has sent his (memorandum on delimitation) directly to the LG, while some other MPs were not in town… the rest of them have sent their suggestions. If one representative is present, that’s enough.”
However, one of the MPs, who did not want to be named, said the issue of delimitation had come up in a recent meeting between them and party leaders. “It was suggested there was no point in meeting the Lt Governor and instead, we should have approached the Election Commission. But the party does whatever it wants to do… ,” said the MP.
A senior BJP leader admitted that there have been differences between the Delhi unit chief and other leaders, who were feeling “cut off” from the decision-making process. “The party unit makes decisions on its own and leaves us out. Is this how the Delhi BJP is planning to fight AAP,” said another MP.
But senior leaders of Delhi BJP alleged that MPs and others were “acting distant”. “Some are contending for the post of the party unit president, as there are rumours of a change of guard,” said a senior party leader.
