Apple is set to launch its next generation iPhone on Wednesday.
While Apple is not bringing much to the table this time in terms of design, one thing is there for sure – new upgrades in some of the key areas and components. Apple will also likely to announce the availability of iOS 10’s final release alongside new iPhones, which should set a new precedent for strong hardware – software integration. We are primarily looking at new updates to the camera, processor and audio prowess of the iPhone based on the leaks .
Here is everything we know for sure:
Camera: Apple iPhone has had one of the best smartphone cameras since iPhone 5 came out in 2012. Apple has invested significantly in order to make its mobile camera faster, and accurate in terms of colour reproduction. The USP of iPhone camera lies in the speed and intelligent software of the device.
With next-generation iPhone 7, Apple is reportedly retaining the same 12-megapixel image sensor available on iPhone 6s, and improves the sensor with six-element lens, as opposed to the five-element lens found on iPhone 6s. Apple is also expected to add a protective shield around the iPhone lens, to prevent from scratch and other physical damage.
Another important update here is going to be the addition of dual-rear camera setup to the larger iPhone Plus. According to KGI securities’ analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, iPhone 7 Plus will be announced with dual 12MP rear camera setup. Though Apple is not the first smartphone maker to add dual-rear cameras to smartphone, the approach here seems very interesting. According to KGI, the dual rear cameras will comprise of a wide-angle camera and a telephoto camera. While LG is allowing its wide-angle and regular cameras to work independently, Apple is planning to make them work in tandem and produce an image with better details.

While LG is allowing its wide-angle and regular cameras to work independently, Apple is planning to make them work in tandem and produce an image with ultra-wide angle view. The Cupertino-based company is also likely to add optical zoom and light-field camera applications.
Processor: With 12.9-inch iPad Pro, Apple already offers one of the fastest mobile computing devices on the planet. With iPhone 7, Apple might offer the fastest smartphone. Apple iPhone 7 is reportedly coming with A10 chipset, which is the successor to A9 and KGI says, the new processor can be clocked at up to 2.4GHz. The processor, produced by TSMC, will use new ‘InFO’ process for faster speed and battery efficiency.
According to some leaked GeekBench score, the purported A10 chipset has already scored 3000 in single-core test, which is just 100 points shy of A9X found on the iPad Pro. Apple is expected to detail the manufacturing process at its event tomorrow. Read more here.
Audio: Apple, the name behind popular music service iTunes, is set to join the list of smartphone makers ditching the 3.5mm headphone jack. Apple is likely to introduce lightning connected earpods and also the new ‘lightning to 3.5mm’ converter. Another strong possibility is the addition of dual bottom firing stereo speakers.
Apple iPad Pro, with its four-stereo speaker setup, offers the best form of audio. Apple could offer great audio experience with its next-gen iPhone.
