Lenovo has officially launched the cheapest Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 smartphone. Snapdragon 820 is the top performance chipset from Qualcomm and it is the one powering flagship smartphones like Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and LG G5. Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, however, is not just limited to flagships but also responsible for powering mid-range flagships like OnePlus 3, Xiaomi Mi 5 and LeEco’s Le Max 2.

At starting price of Rs 17,999, Lenovo is taking on the likes of OnePlus 3 and Mi 5 with its latest Z2 Plus. Lenovo Z2 Plus also has lot of other things favouring the device, and Snapdragon 820 will stay as the key highlight of the device. So let’s see how Z2 Plus stacks up against OnePlus 3, Xiaomi Mi 5 and Le Max 2 in terms of specifications.

Lenovo Z2 Plus: In our first impressions, we noted that form factor is the biggest USP of this device. Lenovo Z2 Plus offers a 5-inch display, the smallest among all smartphones powered by Snapdragon 820 chipset. The smartphone features a metal and glass build, but it is considerably lighter than other smartphones in this range.

Lenovo Z2 Plus’ biggest weakness against OnePlus 3, Le Max 2 and Mi 5 would be the display. OnePlus 3 offers the best display among the pack thanks to the use of AMOLED display against LCD display used on other device. Lenovo Z2 Plus comes in two variants – 3GB RAM with 32GB storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage. The smartphone offers more RAM and storage than Xiaomi Mi 5, but lesser storage than OnePlus 3 and Le Max 2, which cost way more than Z2 Plus. Lenovo Z2 Plus offers a very good balance between hardware and price.

Lenovo Z2 Plus will appeal to Android fans who like a near stock experience. The smartphone will be available starting from September 25 on Amazon India.

OnePlus 3: The original OnePlus One was one of the best smartphone of 2014 and with OnePlus, the Chinese startup has delivered a near perfect smartphone. The smartphone offers the best processing power, best full HD display and a camera that is not a compromise in its price segment.

In our review, we noted that OnePlus 3 can perform as well as Samsung’s Galaxy S7 edge. OnePlus has also worked on its Oxygen OS to a great extent. The custom Android ROM feels more complete than ever before and offers very fast response. OnePlus 3 is undoubtedly the best smartphone under Rs 30,000 and with Z2 Plus launch, the smartphone will have some serious competition given the price-sensitive Indian market . Xiaomi Mi 5: With Mi 5, Xiaomi promised a flagship return after almost 18 months, but we were not very impressed with the device. Xiaomi Mi 5 offers a compact design with small display which is really good. The smartphone is very light, and has an all glass design, along with a very good display. But the UI and software are a major letdown.

Xiaomi Mi 5, which is also powered by Snapdragon 820 processor, didn’t really fare well in our test. The device doesn’t seem to be paired well with the processor and memory and we even noticed excessive heating, which is something Xiaomi was unable to get right for quite sometime. The smartphone’s camera, which is being dubbed as its USP failed to impress us, although it works well in brightly lit situations. In low-light shots, the Mi 5’s camera was not so impressive. On the positive side, Mi 5 offers a great camera UI and has seen constant updates. Read our full review here.

LeEco Le Max 2: The one thing in favour of Le Max 2 is its pixel dense Quad HD display. The smartphone features a huge 5.7-inch QHD display, but it is not the brightest or the most colour saturated smartphone display. The device gets Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset and it is also the only other device to get 6GB RAM. The camera on the Le Max 2 is 21 MP on the back, and it has an 8 MP camera on the front. The camera does deliver some good shots, both in low-light and well-lit situations. However the UI and the content bundled on the Le Max 2 smartphone are not so impressive. Also this one doesn’t have a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and instead relies on Type-C USB powered headphones, which are not so great. Read our full review here.
